The 4 minutes
film September 11th was shot one hour after the towers collapsed.
The film juxtaposes images of people's faces in the street, friend's
faces facing the images of the disaster, images of smoke and images
of images of smoke.
This project was made to express incredulity facing such an event
on such a scale. It was made to express emotions rather than facts,
but also to create a language that can talk to the event outside
of binary statements, positions and opinions. The text from the
Edward Bond "War Plays" appears as at the bottom of
the screen and is in itself a commentary addressing problematics
beyond a political discourse while placing the issues emerging
out of September 11th on a more philosophical level.
The music composed by Anthony Coleman and Roy Nathanson adds an
emotional layer to the piece, offering texture to the void that
we were all left with following that particular Tuesday..
